Barack-ing the house!

A week ago today we stood in line a total of 7 hours—including standing through the 3 hour concert/rally—and it was worth it, seeing the look on Miranda’s face when President Obama walked onto the stage. When we walked in, the auditorium was pretty empty so she parked us directly in front the podium, a few feet behind the rows of VIP chairs.

Naturally, our phones were loosing bars so we weren’t sure we’d find our posse, Doreen, Tristan and Beth once inside, but a quick text took care of that. The five of us closed ranks with our neighors  against line cutters.

First at the podium was 49ers’ quaterback, Alex Smith followed by tight end Vernon Davis. SF Mayor Ed Lee introduced Michael Franti and he got us jumpin’ and jammin’!

  1. My feelings about the first debate have evolved. I was rather struck by the president’s remark on the radio show that he had been “too polite.” That rings really true. I am usually way off when it comes to practical politics, but for what it is worth, I somehow have the feeling that this politeness of the man holding the highest office was not only striking and honorable, but to good effect, in other words saying, All right, let’s listen to what the challenger has to say. So everybody listened and jaws dropped when he completely changed his positions. Anyway, he has had his moment in the sun, and the Romney/Ryan ideas are out there to be paid attention to. They should be paid attention to. Americans should decide if they like them, and it is good that Romney and Ryan have had a chance to be really heard and even to surge in the polls. — Now in the next 2 debates it is up to the president to explain why they are not good ideas and why it is better if we keep on plodding along in the more realistic and humane manner we have been going. So, the feeling of it to me is good, that the opposition has had its moment in the sun. — This feeling will last only as long as the president turns in a good performance tonight of course! When Obama wins, the other side will have the feeling that their ideas were heard, but they lost. That’s my strategy for a good outcome!

The only time I heard Obama in person was in 2007 or 2008 way before anybody and certainly I remotely thought he had the chance to beat Hillary out for the nomination. He spoke in the gym of the high school in a little town near here. The first thing he said was to the assembled students, “Thanks for coming. I know your teachers made you come here!” That got a big laugh. I thought that was very hip. I was impressed that all the teachers seemed to be on the stand behind Obama and very enthusiastic. I think this was the first time when I vaguely had the idea, hey, maybe America might catch up to this guy, you never know. A few minutes later, somebody just to our left fainted dead away. As usual Barack stopped the proceedings and made sure somebody was passing the person a water bottle and that the medics were on their way. Later I learned that this was not unusual.

Hope everybody enjoys tonite and nobody faints!

  2. Wonderful debate! Obama was in his groove again and nobody doubted that he would be. It is true that he was just so involved and busy in being president that he was late getting up for the debates, that is all.

Romney is selling snake oil, and Obama has the true religion. But the question is, as always, which of these really makes this old world go round? We’ll see . . .

President did a great job, nobody can ask for any more.

    1. Yes, he did a good job this time around. I have a blog post in me, just no time right now to write it! Maybe in the next couple of days. I also have a VERY funny video to share. Stay tuned!…
